An Open Letter to a Mumbai Bai !!!

Yo people, whassup? Kay chaalla aahes
The Indian Bai, or specifically the mumbai bai are a group of sophisticated people, who have varied interests in different fields. This letter is dedicated to them.
Mumbai Bai, when u come late daily, use a better excuse than aaj bahut traffic tha or koi bimaar hai.
 When u come to my home when nobody is der atleast keep the volume down when u are playing dink chaak marathi songs.
When u don't come for one day, the whole day, the house is such a mess, well its a mess even when u come, though we don't see it.
When u come to make sabzi for home, what to say, where do u get that zehrila mirchi, fumes come out everytime from everywhere.
Its always fun, when u come home n say "aap ko pata hai aaj uppar waale ghar mein kya hua" its fun to hear thos lovely bits of gossips, just don't go to uppar waala ghar n say "aap ko pata hai aaj neeche waale ghar mein kya hua" . Gossips just get more fun when u have company at home to enjoy ur gossips..
And we all love ur expert comments on reality shows and Tv serials. God only knows what will we do without u. Its never fun to watch a TV serial without u around.
And when u give advise regarding what kinda job, and which place i have to work, feel like idolizing u :P
Yes i would have to check the company credentials, apply to the company, clear the interview, but who cares, u have given the approval, thats enough.
When u take care of kids, its just amazing how u r able to talk with ur companions continuously for 2 hours and still look after the child. kudos.
And for the ladies, if u need tips on fashion, who else could be a better mentor than your bai. U'l get all the help regarding clothes and jewelry. 
These days, we r even scared to fight with u, coz u get ur whole sena to argue against us. 'The Bai Union'

But there are some Bai-s who are really helpful, take care of household chores, give a motherly care to children, don't expect big favors in return. Bravo to all of them.

Stop Child Atrocities!!!

Yesterday, i was travelling in the mumbai streets for some work. In a single day, i could see the act and effect of child labour on small school going children. First i was just waiting in the bus stop, saw couple of young 7- 8 year old girls carrying a big vessel of water on their head, in hot afternoon sun. With the weight of the vessel almost 25% of body weight of the child. Worse was they were walking barefoot and had to cross to the other side of the 3 lane link road. All that in heavy traffic. It was a real pity to see such kids doing cheap labour, instead they should be studying in schools.
The same day, i saw a young 10 year old boy buying gutkha( chewed tobacco) from a local pan shop. The pan shop owner without bothering just sold it to the fella after taking money. Some passerby caught hold of that boy, and made him spit all of it, and when the shop owner was asked bout selling gutkha to children. He said, " tereko kya karneka, usne paise diya maine becha" ( u mind ur own business, he paid money i sold it to him) . This is the awareness and responsibility of people around us.

The problem is bigger than child labour, the core problem is poverty and illiteracy. I just happened to talk to some poor families, most of them complain that they don't have money, so they are forced to send their kids for meager labour. Many of them understand that kids should be studying , some are just plain ignorant. Kids are easy target for cheap labour. People can make them work whole day and can get away without paying them too. This kind of lifestyle exposes them to various abuses like tobacco, smoking, drugs at a very early age and there is no one to monitor them either. Its sad that in our country we always talk about economic growth, but what about the core problems that are plaguing our country, Povery, Illiteracy, communicable diseases, child labour, female infanticide etc.
I know there are lot of NGOs working on this issues, but there should be a centralised portal by government, where quick and correct action can be taken against these issues. And even i want to be part of the cause to curb these issues in our country.

Remembering Carnage 26/11/2008

Exactly an year ago, Few youngsters across the border, stepped in to our country, into the city of joy and life "Mumbai" , and opened gunfire at every innocent face in the city.  Many innocent people died, who were just leading a normal life. Tears rolled out in the eyes of every indian, they left our hearts bleeding. Less that we knew , we'l be left just being sympathetic towards people who died and could do nothing when just so many people were killed in the CST  railway station. The unpreparedness on our part, played a big catalyst for the terrorists in these attacks

The lives of the slain officers' family has changed, has changed dramatically. We may sing praises for years together for officers Ashok Kamte, Vijay Salaskar, Hemant Karkare, Major Unnikrishnan, the names are never ending. But whats done about it. To mark the Anniversary of 26/11, we must pledge to have a better security system, better intelligence, better resources, better training to tackle such situations. We need a effective crisis management committee. We must ensure the family of the people affected should not suffer. Of course , nothing can compensate their loss, but atleast we can help them in their grief, and support both mentally and financially. 

Mumbai has become the punching bag for terroists. Attacks keep coming and we are helpless. The candlelight vigils and sms campaigns may seem ineffectual, but lets not underestimate the power of an enlightened citizenry in the media age. But how effective will be this enlightenedness, or will it die down as we get used to lead a normal life as nothing has happened is to see in the future. Together as a nation, we must stand against terorrism and protect ourselves and our country in whichever way we can.

In a small way, i want to donate some money to an NGO which is still working in rehabilitating affected people in attacks. You can also play a part. For every comment, i'l donate Rs. 20  towards the relief fund. Details of the NGO will be updated later.

Mumbai burning

Mother India is crying... There is a series of terror attacks in india in the lasr 3-4 months.
Last night, a group of terrorists opened attacks in 11 places in mumbai. More than 100 killed, many injured, and many still missing. The ordeal has not ended, there are many trapped inside The Taj hotel and the Trident Oberoi. A batallion of army and NSG have descended to the scene, trying to gun down the terrorists and doing their best to save as many people as possible...
What is painful is even with so many assurances from the government and defense services, such attacks keep happening. So many people die, so many innocent fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters lose their, who will pay for the tears. Government compensation wont help.
Whos to blame in lapse of security, government, police, intelligence, no its we who are responsible. It is easier to blame these people sitting in a cosy cubicle in our airconditioned office. Its time as active citizens, we be more vigilant about suspicious people in and around you and help our government and police tackle such situations. The youth of india should come forward and enter active politics. To change the system, you have to be in the system.
All the political parties should stop blaming each other, rather come together and fight this painful attack by terrorists.

Shameful Act !!!

In the recent event of Arrival of Indian Cricket Team to Mumbai. They were on a drive in a bus from the Airport to Wankhede stadium for felicitation. The frantic Indian cricket fans in Mumbai came from all parts of the city to see the cricket team. There were thousands of people gathered at every nook and corner of the road.
There has been a incident of molestation on 2 college girls who were there too see the team. They were mishandled, groped and pushed by the whole mob. One among them even fell in a ditch. Its really disheartening to see some men behaving so cheaply. I mean how can do such thing to young girls. When such a incident occurs to their sister or mother then these people will understand. This is just 1 incident, the poor girls even after such a trauma, they had the courage to go and complain. There might have been so many incidents unreported. This is always a problem in our country. Whenever there is any huge crowd, such incidents happen all the time, all of them go unnoticed. Such people should be given very strict punishment.
Mumbai was supposed to be among the safest city in India, but such incidents makes me not so proud to be part of this city. Stand up against this kinda unsocial behavior.

Mumbai -5th Honest City in the World

Mumbai is judged the 5th honest city in the world. Well tht was kinda surprising for me... Well im not sure how did these people conducted this survey.. But kinda good to hear tht...
I dnt knw whether people here r honest. but theyre definitely people wid big hearts. Most of the people r really helpful. Its the spirit of Mumbaikars, tht i absolutely love , may it be the Floods , 7/11 train blasts, or the recent building collapse in borivili. They're always der to help other people in difficult times..
Recently a friend of mine came to this city frm a not so big city alone for searching a job. A gal alone in a new city, seems a bit tuff for the gal to face. But people here are so helpful. u'l never get lost in mumbai.. And wid the efficiency of our transport system, the local trains, the B.E.S.T buses, autos n taxis, U can go frm 1 end of mumbai to other end in just mere 20 bucks... But ofcourse i wont say mumbai has world class transport facilities.. But i wud say its the best in India. Nowhere in India u'l find such an efficient transport system, though many a times buses n trains r late.. but a spare a thght for the driver too theres too much traffic in mumbai... its very difficult to be on time. although not impossible...
And i wud vouch for the fact tht mumbai is the safest city in the country for the gals... For instance take Delhi, being the capital of the country , its not at all safe for gals... every other day there is a case of molestation, rapes. Its so painful ... Of course these crimes even occur in mumbai.. But comparatively Mumbai is far far better.. Recently I went to delhi , the shopkeeper n people r so rude der.. was so frustrated handling them.. Mumbai usually thts not a case..
Well exceptions r always der... der r people who r faced wid very bad experiences in Mumbai... koi kuch bhi kahe, Im just proud to be a 'Mumbaikar'
